Website Building Process

1. Discovery

  • Initial kick-off call

  • Gather materials

    • Current website assets, branding, photos, etc.

2. Design

  • Design homepage mockup

  • Feedback and 1 round of edits

  • Client fills in content map and provides any other assets

  • Acquire domain

3. Build

  • Create website platform account

  • Begin website build

  • Adds plug-ins, custom coding as necessary

4. Delivery

  • Present website to client

  • Test and make edits

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Each case is treated differently based on a number of factors:

    • Starting from scratch or redesign

    • Timeline (rushed or normal)

    • Number of pages and complexity of content

    • Amount and type of extras features/plugins/capabilities

    • Type of website (eg. e-commerce vs. informational)

    • Rounds of edits

    • Website platform and complexity

    However, after learning about your company, I will create a Scope of Work that contains all deliverables, a timeline, and the estimated final price (and payment timeline).

    The login information to your site will be sent to you to you upon receiving final payment.

    While the complexity of your website needs varies, the minimum investment is $900 and the highest is $5,000.

  • My fee covers the investment to design and build your dream website (like designing and building the actual “store”). However, there are other factors to consider in the ongoing ownership of a website:

    • Domain cost — This is like the sign on your business, your URL. There is a yearly cost to own your domain, typically between $10-20 a year.

    • Website hosting — This is like the building your business will operate in. Depending on the website platform we choose for you, this can be between

      • Squarespace is between $16-$49/month or ~$200-$600 year

      • Shopify is $39-$399/month

      • Bluehost for Wordpress is typically between $3-14/month

    • Wordpress template — if we are building a complex Wordpress site, we begin with a template/builder that will be factored into your SOW, typically $40-60, one-time cost

    • Special plugins or integrations — This is like any special lighting fixtures or security systems. Typically between $5-20/month

    • Special content assets — This is like special signage or mannequin. Includes special font licenses, stock imagery, etc. Typically $5-25 each.

    These costs are not covered by Sugar Sugar as they are ongoing costs that will last past the initial build or are special desires from the client.

  • I usually book projects to kick-off a week or two after the initial reach out. Then, depending on the requirements of the project, the time from start to finish should take between 6-10 weeks.

    Note: project timeline also depends on clients providing necessary items in a timely manner.

  • If you’re already looking at these services, you’re probably ready for a redesign ;)

    However, I know it’s hard to know if a complete overhaul or simply updating your current site is the right route to go. And you want to be sure on the investment.
